Mercury rev "Goddess on a Hiway"
ok, this tab is not 100% accurate, but what tab ever is?! This tab does give a fair indication of the bass parts to the song, so if i've missed out a little variation or whatever, figure it out yourself, or MAKE YOUR OWN UP. it's half the fun of bass playing!! I don't know if i've used the "standard" tab symbols but the ones i've used are pretty straight forward:
| divides up the music (not always a standard bar line in tab)
/ Means slide UP to that fret
\ Means slide DOWN from that fret
R E S T Self explanatory, a brief pause...
. . Means Repeat the previous section...
h (ie 9h11) means hammer on from the 9th fret to 11th fret
The notes written above the tab are indications of the chord being used.
INTRO
Kind of a bass solo over the piano part, some notes are quite staccatto so listen out for them. Sounds good when you're sliding around between frets

VERSE
"well i got us on the hiway...."
Pretty strict Rhythm, the first 2 notes of the bar fall straight on beats 1 and 2 and the rest always falls on beat 3. The last 2 notes of each bar are quaver (or 8th) notes over the 4th beat.

CHORUS
Where you can truly Improv!! i don't know exactly what is being played here so stick to the chord progression and run around a bit. The last part of the Chorus (where it says "then"!!) uses the same rhythm or near enough as the verse, so keep it nice and tight!
"And i know..."

And that's about it. Keep improvising, and keep listening to quality music such as the 'Rev!!
